I always wanted to get a head in life...
Supplies needed:
- 3-4 female foam heads from Hobby Lobby (the should be under $5 each)
- 3-4 cheese cloths
- Mod Podge
- Eyelet screws
- Super glue & white craft glue (not school glue. Get the craft glue. Trust me on this...)
- Fishing line
The actual process was probably the easiest thing I have made for this year's Halloween display. They biggest is is getting the eyelet hooks to set. I tries using E6000 and it melted the Styrofoam. So instead I went with white craft glue mixed with super glue and that seems to have don the trick. Make sure you get eyelets with a reasonable length in the screw portion too. I used #212 x 15/16 in. Stainless-Steel Screw Eyes for this.
Once I had the eyelet's in place and the glue had set, I used our wire foam cutting tool (don't burn yourself...) and cut the neck off. I liked using the hot wire cutter for this as it allowed me to shape the cut a bit to match the curve of the jaw and head.
Get you cheese cloth and position it how you like, then lift up the portion covering the face. smear a thin layer of mod podge over the eyes, brow ridge, nose, mouth and chin, then put the cloth back down and press it into the Mod Podge. If you need to use more to get the cloth to stick, go for it. This will emphasize the facial features while still keeping the creep generic look of the face and allowing the rest of the cloth to hang free and move in the wind.
Once dry, you can attach the fishing line to the eyelet in the length you want and you are done. With this one. I have 2 more to make but I need one of these heads to be free for a bit as I use it as a mold. But that's a different project. And yes, I will be posting that soon too...
